Microsoft Edge unveils its innovative in-game browser, Edge Game Assist, designed to revolutionize the PC gaming experience. This preview release aims to streamline gameplay by eliminating the need to alt-tab out of games for browsing. Read on to discover its game-aware capabilities.
A Game-Aware Browser Experience
Edge Game Assist is a game-optimized browser appearing as an overlay within the Game Bar, accessible without interrupting gameplay. Microsoft cites that 88% of PC gamers use browsers during gameplay, highlighting the need for a seamless integration. Edge Game Assist addresses this by providing access to your existing Edge browser data, including bookmarks, history, and autofill, eliminating the need for repeated logins.
This in-game browser boasts a unique "game-aware" tab page, intelligently suggesting relevant tips, guides, and walkthroughs for the currently active game. This feature, stemming from Microsoft's research showing 40% of PC gamers seek in-game assistance, streamlines the process of finding helpful information. Users can even pin this tab for persistent, real-time access to guides.
Currently, this automatic suggestion functionality is limited to a select group of popular titles:
- Baldur's Gate 3
- Diablo IV
- Fortnite
- Hellblade II: Senua's Saga
- League of Legends
- Minecraft
- Overwatch 2
- Roblox
- Valorant
Microsoft assures that game support will expand as the beta progresses.
To utilize Edge Game Assist, download the Edge Beta or Preview version, set it as your default browser, and locate the Game Assist installation option within the settings menu. Prepare for a more immersive and efficient gaming experience!
