Battle of Sudoku: A Multiplayer Sudoku Showdown
Love Sudoku? Want to challenge friends or team up? Battle of Sudoku is a multiplayer version where you compete against other players or teams to solve a 9x9 Sudoku puzzle. The goal remains the same: fill the grid with digits 1-9 so each row, column, and 3x3 subgrid contains all digits.
Game Setup and Difficulty:
Before starting, select a difficulty level (1-6) in the game options. Level 1 is easiest, level 6 is hardest. This determines the number of pre-filled digits, which are the same for all players.
Game Modes:
Two modes are available:
- Show Opponent's Correct Numbers: Every correctly placed number is visible to all players. Only the first player to correctly place a number earns points. Duplicate numbers are not allowed.
- Hidden Correct Numbers: Players cannot see each other's correct numbers. This allows for multiple players to earn points for the same correct number.
Time-Outs:
Incorrectly placed numbers result in a time-out (default 30 seconds, configurable in options). The timed-out player cannot make moves while others continue.
Scoring:
Correct numbers earn points, based on the puzzle's difficulty level (higher level = more points). Incorrect numbers deduct half the points earned for a correct placement.
Winning the Game:
The game ends when the puzzle is solved. In the "Show Opponent's Correct Numbers" mode, the player with the most points wins. If this option is disabled, the game ends when one player solves the puzzle, but this doesn't grant extra points; other players can still win with fewer mistakes.
Team Play vs. Individual Play:
Team play allows two teams to compete. Players select their team (1 or 2) upon joining. A minimum of two players per team is required. Points are added to the team's total score, and notes/filled colors are shared among teammates.
Solving Tools:
A toolbar provides tools to assist in solving:
- Pen Tool: Add notes (mini-numbers) to empty squares. Selecting a number already present removes it.
- Fill Mode: Change the background color of squares (including solved ones).
