The new trailer for Peacemaker Season 2 has just dropped, and it's packed with exciting Superman connections right from the start. The opening scene features Sean Gunn as Maxwell Lord, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner / Green Lantern, and Isabela Merced as Kendra Saunders / Hawkgirl interviewing John Cena's Peacemaker for a potential spot on a superhero team. The interview takes a sour turn, leaving Peacemaker visibly dejected as he storms out.
This trailer offers the first glimpses of these supporting characters, who are also slated to appear in James Gunn's upcoming Superman movie. The integration of these characters signifies a strong tie between the series and the broader DC Universe (DCU).
Peacemaker Season 2 is set to premiere on August 21 on Max, following the release of Superman on July 11. This positions the series as the third entry in the DCU, coming after the Creature Commandos TV series, which launched the new cinematic universe last year.
James Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran are steering the DCU away from the criticized DC Extended Universe (DCEU), which included films like Justice League, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Man of Steel. Despite this shift, some elements from the DCEU are being retained, with Peacemaker serving as a prime example. While Season 1 was part of the DCEU, Season 2 will be fully integrated into the new DCU.
Gunn has emphasized that "many strands will remain consistent as far as Peacemaker's story goes," though it's not yet clear which specific elements will transition from the old to the new universe. What is confirmed is that the entire Team Peacemaker will return with the same actors. John Cena will reprise his role as Peacemaker, alongside Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase, and Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo.
Moreover, Gunn has stated that Peacemaker Season 2 will take place after the events of both Creature Commandos and Superman, with the latter's events directly impacting the storyline of the series.
Achieving peace is a team effort.
