Since *Fields of Mistria* entered Early Access on Steam, the Deep Woods area has been marked on the town map, but remained inaccessible until the game's March 2025 update. Now, let's dive into how you can access the Deep Woods and find Caldarus in this enchanting game.
How To Unlock the Deep Woods in Fields of Mistria
Unlocking the Deep Woods requires breaking the Fire Seal and harnessing the new Dragon's Breath spell to clear the vines blocking the path. To achieve this, you'll need to place four specific items on the Priestess' Fire Seal altar located at Floor 60 in the mines: a Faceted Rock Gem, a Rockroot, an Emerald, and a Sealing Scroll. The first three items can be found scattered between floors 50 and 59, but obtaining the Sealing Scroll requires teamwork with Juniper and Balor.
To help Balor acquire the Sealing Scroll, you must deposit the following items in the bin by his wagon:
- x10 Silver Ingots
- x10 Rubies
- x10 Sapphires
- x10 Emeralds
Once you've met these requirements, speak with Balor again, and he'll inform you that the scroll will be available the next day. After collecting the scroll, you can complete the offering at the altar.
Typically, breaking a magic seal leads to a farewell from the mysterious mines Priestess, unlocking a new biome. However, this time, the outcome deviates from the norm. The Priestess implores you to leave before the Sealing Scroll inadvertently traps you inside. With your health dangerously low, you'll call out for help, summoning Caldarus in his human form. He'll retreat to his temple in the Deep Woods to regain his strength and beckon you to find him there, bestowing upon you the Dragon's Breath spell.
This potent offensive spell is crucial for burning through the vines that obscure the Deep Woods' entrance. It also unlocks other previously inaccessible areas on the map. To use it, simply equip Dragon's Breath from the pause menu and activate it while standing in front of the area's entrance. This action will permanently unlock the Deep Woods and other hidden spots.

How To Find Caldarus
Once the Fire Seal is broken, locate Caldarus inside his temple within the Deep Woods. This area is north of the Eastern Road on your map, and accessing it requires the Dragon's Breath spell. Caldarus' exact location is marked on your map like other NPCs, and you'll find him in the northeast corner of the area.
To reach him, enter the Deep Woods, head right, and use your axe to chop down a stump blocking your path. Continue north until you reach the temple where Caldarus awaits inside.
After unlocking the Deep Woods, you can use the Dragon Statue on your farm to fast travel to this area and visit Caldarus for just 10 Essence. This convenient method saves time compared to traveling by foot or horseback.
You can also interact with Caldarus through his statue, connecting with him in spirit.
