Awesome Games Done Quick 2025 surpasses fundraising goals, exceeding $2.5 Million for Cancer Prevention
The Awesome Games Done Quick (AGDQ) 2025 event, held from January 5th to 13th, successfully raised over $2.5 million for the Prevent Cancer Foundation. This impressive total surpasses the 2024 event by over $100,000. The week-long marathon featured a diverse lineup of speedruns, showcasing titles like Crazy Taxi, Super Metroid, and many more across various gaming genres.
AGDQ, a prominent annual winter event, is one of two major Games Done Quick (GDQ) fundraisers held yearly, complemented by the Summer Games Done Quick marathon in July. GDQ also organizes smaller events throughout the year, such as Frame Fatales and GDQ Express. Notably, a special Disaster Relief Done Quick event was held in October 2024, raising over $45,000 for Direct Relief in response to Hurricane Helene's impact on the Southeastern US.
The AGDQ 2025 event, held in Pittsburgh, kicked off with a swift Pikmin (Switch) run by speedrunner Ray0ken. The event's success significantly contributes to the Prevent Cancer Foundation's mission of early cancer detection, prevention, research, and community outreach. This partnership between GDQ and PCF has a long history, with over $26 million raised collectively through various GDQ events.
A standout moment was a unique Crazy Taxi speedrun by Chuckles825, accompanied by a live band performing the game's soundtrack. This innovative approach, overcoming the challenges of copyrighted music, generated over $24,000 in donations during its 18-minute run.
The event concluded with a thrilling randomized four-player Super Metroid (SNES) race, resulting in a nail-biting finish with two runners finishing within a single second. The next GDQ event, Summer Games Done Quick 2025, will take place in Minneapolis from July 6th, benefiting Doctors Without Borders.
