Creative director Jonathan Dumont has shared that completing the main storyline of Assassin's Creed Shadows will take approximately 30 to 40 hours. For those aiming to experience all optional content, an additional 30 to 40 hours may be required—bringing the total estimated playtime to around 80 hours. This information comes from an interview with journalist Genki, giving players a clearer expectation of the time investment involved.
In earlier statements, Dumont compared the scale of Shadows to previous entries such as Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla. Since these games vary greatly in length, however, such comparisons offered limited clarity. Recognizing the challenge of quantifying open-world experiences, Dumont later clarified that Shadows aligns more closely with the scope of Origins. According to How Long To Beat, Origins requires about 30 hours to complete the main story and over 80 hours for full completionists.

By comparison, Valhalla received criticism for its 60-hour main story and potential 150-hour completionist run. If Dumont's estimates hold true, Shadows should provide a satisfying and more manageable experience.
Assassin's Creed Shadows launches on March 20 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
