One of the most intricate aspects of *Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land* is the Synthesis mechanic, which is deeply integrated into various facets of the game. From resources you gather to the weapons you craft, everything revolves around Synthesis. Here's how to optimize your experience with this essential system.
Synthesis Types in Atelier Yumia
In Atelier Yumia, there are three distinct types of Synthesis:
Regular Synthesis is performed at an Alchemist’s altar. This is the primary method for crafting weapons, armor, battle accessories, magical items, and materials needed for further Synthesis. Early in the game, you unlock the Atelier, which allows you to return and use regular Synthesis at any time. In areas where you can build, such as cleared manabound zones or campsites, you can construct a Simple Altar to perform regular Synthesis.
Simple Synthesis is accessible outside of battle via the radial menu. It's used to create items like bandages, zipline gauntlets, and repair kits for treasure chests and ladders, provided you have the necessary resources.
Building Synthesis is part of the building mode, accessed through the radial menu on specific plots of land. Although not officially labeled as Synthesis, Yumia engages in this process to create storage chests and wall hangings. The game's narrative often refers to this as Synthesis, so keep that in mind to avoid confusion.

How to Synthesize Equipment in Atelier Yumia
The regular Synthesis at altars is the most complex form of Synthesis in Atelier Yumia. To craft an item like a gun staff for Yumia, you first need to find the recipe while exploring. You can also upgrade your recipes at a Recipe Recall Station using particles from mana fountains. Here’s how to proceed at an Alchemist’s altar:
- Select the type of gun staff you want to create.
- Choose Synthesis Skills if they are unlocked in the skill tree.
- Select an initial Alchemy Core to build upon:
- Effects Alchemy Core enhances selected skills.
- Quality Alchemy Core boosts the quality level of the completed item.
- Trait Alchemy Core increases the number of Trait Crystal slots you can use.
- Fill the slots of each Alchemy Core with resources you’ve collected.
- Collect mana fragments to further increase the quality.
- Synthesize the item once you've completed the above steps.
To craft powerful items early in the game, unlock Synthesis Skills from the skill tree as soon as possible. These skills not only provide damage and quality boosts but also allow you to duplicate items, conserving resources.
You can enhance the item's quality by adding resources to all three Alchemy Cores. Use the left or right bumper to switch between cores while filling slots. Collecting mana fragments from all three cores will significantly boost your item's strength, a strategy you should employ unless crafting a quest-specific item.
When selecting resources, prioritize those that match the element type of the slots, identifiable by a blue outline. You can also organize your resources in the submenu to choose higher-quality ones first, although you might want to focus on effects instead.
If you find the Synthesis process overwhelming, opt for the auto-Synthesis option after selecting your Synthesis Skills. The game excels at automatically creating the best possible item, allowing you to tackle the final boss on Normal difficulty with relative ease.
And that’s everything you need to know to maximize the Synthesis mechanic in Atelier Yumia.
