Get ready, fans of the beloved animated series, as Nickelodeon and Avatar Studios have just announced an exciting new addition to the Avatar universe: Avatar: Seven Havens. This announcement comes as part of the celebration of the 20th anniversary of Avatar: The Last Airbender, created by Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko. The new series promises to captivate audiences with its 26 episodes of 2D animation, following the journey of a young Earthbender who steps into the role of the next Avatar after Korra.
According to the press release from Nickelodeon, Avatar: Seven Havens is set in a world that has been shattered by a devastating cataclysm. The young Earthbender protagonist discovers her destiny as the new Avatar, but in this perilous era, her title marks her as a potential destroyer rather than a savior. Hunted by both human and spirit enemies, she and her long-lost twin embark on a quest to uncover their mysterious origins and save the Seven Havens, the last strongholds of civilization.
In their statement, Konietzko and DiMartino expressed their excitement about expanding the Avatarverse, saying, “When we created the original series, we never imagined we’d still be expanding the world decades later. This new incarnation of the Avatarverse is full of fantasy, mystery, and a whole new cast of amazing characters.”
Avatar: Seven Havens will be structured into two seasons, each consisting of 13 episodes, forming Book 1 and Book 2. The series is being co-created by Konietzko and DiMartino, alongside executive producers Ethan Spaulding and Sehaj Sethi. While the cast has yet to be announced, anticipation is already building for this new chapter in the Avatar saga.
This series marks the first mainline TV project from Avatar Studios, which is also working on a full-length animated movie centered around an adult Aang. Scheduled for release in theaters on January 30, 2026, the movie will take viewers on a new adventure with the beloved character.
As part of the 20th anniversary festivities, Avatar Studios is not stopping at just a new series and movie. They are also launching a range of new books, comics, concerts, toys, and even a game on Roblox to celebrate this significant milestone in the Avatar universe.
