Details for a Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 playtest intended for developers only were mistakenly pushed to all fans via the Call of Duty app. The leak included information on unannounced multiplayer modes, like a 20v20 mode featuring wingsuits. An unfortunate slip-up.
"An internal, developer-exclusive Black Ops 7 playtest was scheduled to begin this weekend," CharlieIntel posted on X/Twitter. "However, [Activision or developers Treyarch/Raven Software] accidentally sent the daily announcement to all Xbox users on the Call of Duty app."
CharlieIntel also shared details about two previously unannounced multiplayer modes: Skirmish and Overload.
A screenshot describing Skirmish read: "Two teams of 20 battle for objectives across a large map. Seize key points, destroy payloads, and transmit critical data to earn points. Use your wingsuit to flank enemies and secure objectives. The first team to hit the score limit wins."
There's also Overload, described as "two teams of six fight for control of a neutral EMP device that must be delivered to the enemy headquarters to score. Win by delivering multiple EMPs and reaching the score limit first."
An internal, developer only Black Ops 7 play test was set to begin this weekend. They accidentally pushed the message of the day to everyone on Xbox on the Call of Duty app, instead.

Developed by Treyarch and Raven Software, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 — announced during the Xbox Games Showcase 2025 earlier this month — marks the first consecutive release within the Black Ops series. Matt Cox, General Manager of Call of Duty, stated that “from the beginning, our team aimed to create a back-to-back series experience that captures the unique spirit of the Black Ops franchise.”
Black Ops 7 will feature Milo Ventimiglia, Kiernan Shipka, and Michael Rooker. Ventimiglia plays David Mason, Shipka portrays new character Emma Kagen, and Rooker returns as Mike Harper from Black Ops 2.
Earlier this month, Activision removed controversial advertisements that appeared inside Black Ops 6 and Warzone loadouts, calling them an accidental “feature test” published “in error.” It’s worth noting that Black Ops 6 is a premium $70 title, and Black Ops 7 is expected to cost $80, following Microsoft's announcement of a $79.99 price for new first-party Xbox games this holiday season.
And, as a reminder, Beavis and Butt-Head are now available in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.
