Captain America: Brave New World is making history as the shortest Captain America film, and one of the shortest MCU films overall. AMC Theatres announced a runtime of 1 hour and 58 minutes, placing it among the select few MCU films under two hours, and the seventh shortest of the 35 films released. This is a significant departure from the previous three Captain America films, all of which exceeded two hours.
While many of the shorter MCU films hail from Phases 1 and 2, several more recent additions also clock in under two hours. The shortest MCU film is 2022's The Marvels at 1 hour and 45 minutes, followed by The Incredible Hulk, Thor: The Dark World, Thor, Doctor Strange, and Ant-Man. Brave New World shares its runtime with Ant-Man and The Wasp. In contrast, the longest MCU film is Avengers: Endgame at 3 hours and 1 minute, followed by Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Eternals, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
Despite its upcoming release on February 14th, Brave New World has reportedly undergone extensive rewrites and reshoots, including scenes featuring WWE star Seth Rollins. The impact of these changes on the final runtime remains unclear.
This film marks the first Captain America movie since Chris Evans' Steve Rogers retired, with Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson stepping into the iconic role. Mackie promises a continuation of the grounded, espionage-driven adventures that define the Captain America series.
Brave New World is also set to introduce some lesser-known characters from Marvel lore, including a payoff to a tease from The Incredible Hulk, the second MCU film, with the introduction of The Leader. Red Hulk also features prominently.
