If you're a fan of Civilization 7 (Civ 7), you might already know that the team behind the game has made a strategic decision to push back its first in-game event in favor of enhancing the overall player experience. Instead of rushing through the event, Firaxis Games has chosen to prioritize quality-of-life (QoL) improvements that the game sorely needed.
Civ 7 Shifts Focus to Quality-of-Life Enhancements
In an update shared on February 28, 2025, Firaxis Games revealed that the initial in-game event, Natural Wonder Battle, scheduled for the upcoming Update 1.1.0, would be delayed. The team explained, "Events are now being postponed to a later update to allow us more time to prioritize quality-of-life improvements for players worldwide. We’ll share more details about the first in-game event once we’re ready."
Ever since Civ 7 entered early access, players have expressed mixed feelings about certain aspects of the game, particularly its user interface (UI). Recognizing this feedback, Firaxis Games acknowledged, "We are aware of and looking into feedback on the game's UI." They further emphasized their commitment to continuous improvement, stating, "We're continuing to make improvements to Civilization 7, and appreciate you taking the time to drop your feedback."
Update 1.1.0: Addressing Community Feedback
Set to launch on March 4, 2025, Update 1.1.0 will roll out across PC and consoles, with a separate release timing for Nintendo Switch. While the update won't feature the eagerly anticipated in-game event, it will deliver a host of other improvements based on community input.
One of the highlights includes the introduction of a new natural wonder: the enigmatic Bermuda Triangle. Players will be able to explore this mystery for free. Additionally, the much-requested UI tweaks are finally here, aiming to address long-standing concerns about the game's interface. The update will also bring notable changes to the Modern Age’s Cultural Legacy Path, ensuring AI leaders are more adept at achieving a Cultural Victory.
Moreover, the first half of the paid Crossroads of the World Collection will go live alongside the update. Owners of either edition or those who purchased the collection separately will gain access to this content automatically.
Upcoming Updates: More to Come
Looking ahead, the next major update is slated for March 25, 2025, though this date remains flexible. The development team reiterated their dedication to refining the UI, emphasizing that this update is part of a broader initiative spanning multiple months.
Future developments include introducing a "one more turn" mechanic to extend gameplay beyond the Modern Age, implementing auto-explore functionality, offering new map sizes for PC and consoles (excluding Switch), and bolstering multiplayer support.
Firaxis Games concluded by acknowledging the ongoing process of planning and execution, noting, "Some of these will be delivered as early as April (subject to change), though many will take longer to develop, test, and deploy. As always in development, plans can change, and we'll have more details to share here in the weeks and months ahead as plans solidify. We appreciate your continued patience in the meantime!"
