DC Studios' The Authority movie faces setbacks, according to co-chief James Gunn. Initially announced as a major project within Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters, the film, based on the brutally effective WildStorm superhero team, has been placed "on the back burner."
Gunn cited several challenges, including the evolving overall narrative and the need to differentiate the film from similar projects, particularly Amazon's successful The Boys. He acknowledged the influence The Authority had on subsequent works, adding to the complexity of creating a unique and compelling adaptation. The presence of established DC characters already in production further complicates the timeline.
"Honestly, Authority's been the one that's been the hardest," Gunn stated at a DC Studios presentation. "…it's a little bit more on the back burner right now."

While The Authority is delayed, Angela Spica, aka The Engineer, a powerful member of the team, is slated to appear in the upcoming Superman: Legacy.
Other Chapter 1 projects have also encountered difficulties. Waller, a spin-off of Peacemaker, experienced setbacks. However, Booster Gold is progressing well, and Paradise Lost remains a high priority. Swamp Thing, directed by James Mangold, is on hold pending Mangold's other commitments, but it's considered a separate project, not integral to the main storyline.
