Keep Your Guard Up
Xu Wu is an exceptionally agile adversary in Monster Hunter Wilds. Its unpredictable movements, compounded by its unique shape, can make combat frustrating. Similar to Nu Udra, its black skin makes it challenging to discern its front. Xu Wu's multiple arms add to the complexity, and it can also vanish into walls, only to reemerge from the ceiling above you. This tactic is limited to its nest, so heightened vigilance is essential when battling in this location.
Use Ice Attacks
In Monster Hunter Wilds, Xu Wu is particularly vulnerable to Ice. For ranged attackers, Ice ammo is a good choice, while melee fighters should equip gear capable of dealing Ice damage. Enhancing your equipment with a Frost Jewel decoration to gain the Ice Attack skill is advisable. Additionally, carrying a Frost Pod can provide an extra edge by inflicting minor Ice damage.
Avoid the Grab Attack
Xu Wu employs a variety of tactics, including a dangerous grab attack. If ensnared, you'll be unable to use your regular weapons. However, you have roughly two seconds to escape. The best method is to use your slinger, with Frost Pods being especially effective against this monster.
Attack Xu Wu’s Mouth
The mouth of Xu Wu is its weakest point, though it's concealed beneath its body. It's typically visible only when the monster lunges at you. A well-timed, powerful strike here can cause substantial damage and potentially break its mouth, yielding Xu Wu's fang. If the mouth is inaccessible, targeting the head, which is highly susceptible to blunt, cut, and ammo damage, is another effective strategy.
Use Poison
Xu Wu exhibits a strong vulnerability to Poison, making it an excellent choice for weakening the monster. A bow with Poison Coating can be particularly effective. Other status ailments can also be used, but Sleep is less effective against this creature.

Once Xu Wu's health drops to 20 percent, you can attempt to capture it. Use either a Pitfall Trap or a Shock Trap. Baiting with meat can help, or you can position yourself as bait to lure Xu Wu into the trap. Quickly shoot a tranquilizer to immobilize the monster; you have only a few seconds before it might break free.
That's everything you need to know about hunting and capturing Xu Wu in Monster Hunter Wilds. Given its agility, keeping an eye on your stamina is crucial.
