Get ready, Guardians! Bungie has just unveiled an exciting lineup for Destiny 2, packed with two new expansions and significant updates to the core game. All these developments are part of what's being called the "Year of Prophecy," which promises to deliver four major content updates, including two paid expansions and two free updates for all players.
Kicking off the year is the "Rite of the Nine" update, which is already available to all players at no extra cost. This update introduces a fresh take on dungeon diving, perfect for both seasoned players and newcomers. The dungeons—Prophecy, Spire of the Watcher, and Ghosts of the Deep—will feature unique twists and refreshed weapons, allowing players to reconnect with Orin and dive deeper into the lore.
On July 15, the first paid expansion, "Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate," will launch. This expansion marks the beginning of a multiyear saga centered around the mysterious Nine, introducing new characters like Lodi and the Warlock Vanguard, Ikora. Set on the new destination, Kepler, players can expect puzzle-solving, pathfinding challenges, and deep exploration, along with new enemies, weapons, gear, and destination-specific abilities.
Alongside the expansion, major core game innovations will be introduced on July 15, including updated armor and gear systems for enhanced buildcrafting, and a new activity selection screen called the Portal. This screen will allow players to choose between Fireteam Ops, Pinnacle Ops, Crucible Ops, and the new Solo Ops, catering to different play styles and preferences. With 50 new modifiers, players can customize their gameplay and chase specific rewards through curated activity rotations.
Pre-order bonuses for "The Edge of Fate" include an instantly unlockable Exotic Ghost and a Legendary Emblem. For those interested, here's what the pre-order options entail:

Following "The Edge of Fate," the second major update, "Ash & Iron," will launch on September 9, with the second expansion, "Renegades," arriving on December 2. The year will conclude with the "Shadow & Order" update on March 3.
"Destiny 2: Renegades" draws inspiration from the legendary Star Wars universe, blending Destiny's unique storytelling and gameplay with iconic sci-fi elements. This news comes as a positive development for the Destiny 2 community, especially following the layoffs of 220 staff members in July 2024, representing 17% of Bungie's workforce, less than a year after 100 other layoffs.
In addition to Destiny 2, Bungie is also working on the reboot of their classic franchise, Marathon. Revealed in May 2023, the first hands-on preview was recently shared by IGN, indicating promising potential for satisfying the Bungie PvP community's long-standing cravings when it launches on PC and consoles in September.
