Disney has confirmed the official launch of its seventh theme park and resort, set to open on the waterfront of Yas Island in Abu Dhabi through a partnership with Miral.
As shared on the Disney Parks Blog, the entire development, construction, and operation of the new theme park will be managed by Miral—Abu Dhabi’s top creator of immersive destinations—which has already delivered acclaimed attractions like Ferrari World, Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi, and SeaWorld Yas Island.
Disney and its Imagineers will retain a strong creative role, overseeing design and operations to ensure a world-class guest experience. Additionally, Disney CEO Bob Iger noted during the Q2 2025 earnings call that the company is not investing capital but will receive royalty payments.
“We don’t hold ownership in this venture,” Iger explained. “Essentially, we license our intellectual property to them under the agreement.”

“This marks an exciting milestone for Disney as we reveal plans for a spectacular new theme park resort in Abu Dhabi—a place with a deep cultural appreciation for arts and creativity,” Iger stated in a release. “As our seventh global park destination, it will rise magnificently from the landscape, blending modern architecture with cutting-edge technology to offer uniquely immersive entertainment experiences.
"Disneyland Abu Dhabi will capture the true spirit of Disney while reflecting Emirati culture—offering an oasis of world-class Disney entertainment at this global crossroads. It will bring timeless characters and tales to life in fresh, engaging ways, inspiring joy for generations of families across the region.”
While specific park details remain limited, it has been confirmed that the resort will feature Disney’s first modern castle. Early concept art reveals a towering structure of crystal or glass with breathtaking design. A tagline reading “A whole new world awaits” also hints at an Aladdin-themed area.
Though Disney began seriously exploring this project in 2017, Iger told ABC News that plans solidified just last year.
He also spoke with CNBC regarding the project timeline.
“We haven’t set an official opening date,” Iger said. “Typically, it takes 18 to 24 months for design and development, and around five years for construction. However, we are not committing to any deadlines at this stage.”
Iger also highlighted that roughly one-third of the global population lives within a four-hour flight of the UAE. The region is served by the world’s largest airline hub, handling 120 million travelers yearly through Abu Dhabi and Dubai. This expansion also strengthens Disney’s global footprint, closing a key gap in the Middle East.

With these offerings, Abu Dhabi continues to position itself as a top global destination.”
Once completed, Disney's global portfolio will include Disneyland Resort, Walt Disney World, Tokyo Disney Resort, Disneyland Paris, Hong Kong Disneyland Resort, Shanghai Disney Resort, and the upcoming Abu Dhabi location.
Josh D'Amaro, Chairman of Disney Experiences, emphasized that the resort will be "the most technologically advanced and interactive destination in our collection."

By reaching visitors in a new part of the world, we’ll welcome more families to the Disney magic than ever. Ultimately, this project celebrates the power of creativity and progress coming together.”
