Disney Mirrorverse, the mobile action RPG featuring a unique blend of Disney and Pixar characters, is shutting down. Developer Kabam announced the game's end-of-service (EOS) date as December 16th, 2024. The game has already been removed from the Google Play Store, and in-app purchases are disabled. Players have approximately three months of remaining playtime before the servers are permanently deactivated.
Launched in June 2022, Disney Mirrorverse offered a compelling premise, but ultimately failed to reach its full potential. While initially generating significant excitement among Disney fans, the extended beta period and infrequent content updates contributed to player attrition. The game's challenging shard collection system, heavily reliant on in-app purchases for character upgrades, also proved a significant deterrent. Despite impressive character designs and visuals, the game's monetization strategy and content pacing hampered its long-term success.
The abrupt EOS announcement, coming just a week after a content update introducing Cinderella as a playable character, surprised many players. This isn't Kabam's first game closure; they previously shut down Transformers: Forged to Fight and a Marvel Contest of Champions spin-off. The swift decision raises questions about the game's future and the company's development strategy.
