Contrary to initial impressions, the success of Dragon Age: The Veilguard is undeniable. However, recent reports regarding BioWare have cast a shadow over this triumph.
Online chatter, originating from sources described as "agenda fighters," alleges the closure of BioWare Edmonton and the departure of The Veilguard's game director. Eurogamer journalists lend credence to at least part of this, confirming the departure of Corinne Boucher in the coming weeks. Boucher, an 18-year EA veteran, primarily worked on the Sims franchise.
Eurogamer, however, clarifies that the purported closure of BioWare's Dragon Age development team remains purely speculative.
Critical reception of The Veilguard is divided. While some hail it as a return to BioWare's former glory, others view it as a solid, albeit unremarkable, RPG.
At the time of this writing, Metacritic shows no negative reviews. Many reviewers praise the engaging and dynamic action RPG gameplay, particularly challenging at higher difficulty levels.
Yet, dissenting opinions exist. VGC, for example, criticizes the gameplay as feeling outdated and lacking innovation.
