Dragon Age: The Veilguard Surprise Free Weapon DLC Released After Long Wait

Author : Mia Update:Apr 13,2025

BioWare may have largely moved on from Dragon Age: The Veilguard, but that hasn't stopped its dedicated remaining team from surprising fans with a new DLC weapons pack. Dragon Age enthusiasts were taken aback when the RPG's Steam page was updated to announce the Rook’s Weapons Appearance Offer, a free add-on content pack. This unexpected addition comes as a pleasant surprise, especially since EA had indicated that Dragon Age: The Veilguard would receive minimal support moving forward. The fifth patch released in January had focused on addressing game-breaking bugs, making this new content feel like a small miracle, even if it's modest in scope.

The Rook’s Weapons Appearance Offer is currently available only to existing owners of the game and new PC buyers until April 8, 2025. While specifics about the bundle's contents remain undisclosed, the community has deduced that it includes a set of Watchful skins accessible in the Rook's in-game room. There's uncertainty about whether this offer will extend to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S versions of the game.

Feedback from the community has been mixed but generally positive. A Steam review noted, "Even if these appearances aren't the most, uh, beautiful things ever, they do give spooky eldritch horror vibes!" Meanwhile, a Redditor expressed appreciation for the free cosmetic DLC, saying, "It's cosmetic DLC, but it's essentially free DLC for a game that's practically no longer getting newer content. I'll live with that."

Dragon Age: The Veilguard launched to positive critical reviews in October but, according to EA, it did not capture a broad enough audience. In late January, key members of the development team announced their departure from BioWare, with many staff members either being laid off or reassigned to other projects within the company. EA told IGN at the time that the studio was shifting its full focus to the next Mass Effect installment.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard was included in the PlayStation Plus March 2025 titles, just four months after its launch. No further plans for its future have been disclosed.
