EA Sports FC 25 has faced significant backlash, prompting a developer response. Criticisms extend beyond monetization practices to encompass technical issues and gameplay mechanics. To address these concerns, a "Gameplay Refresh Update" has been released, incorporating over 50 changes.
Key improvements include revised core gameplay systems (assists, shots, goalkeeping, and defense), smoother attacking maneuvers, reduced AI interceptions and reverse tackles, and a decrease in the effectiveness of crossing passes. Player support has been enhanced for players in familiar roles, and offside detection for AI-controlled players has been improved. Accuracy of long-range shots has also seen minor adjustments.
Initial reception was overwhelmingly negative, with only 36% of 474 player reviews being positive upon release. Common complaints included perceived corporate greed, numerous bugs and crashes, and PlayStation controller compatibility problems. Furthermore, the game's anti-cheat measures render it incompatible with the Steam Deck.
