The highly anticipated game, *The Exit 8*, has now launched on Android, blending elements of mystery and suspense into a unique gaming experience. Developed by Kotake Create and published by Playism, this game is available for $3.99. It stands out as a walking simulator with a chilling twist, designed to make players question each step they take.
A Creepy Walking Adventure
In *The Exit 8*, players navigate an endless underground passage reminiscent of a Japanese metro station. Trapped in a seemingly endless loop, the environment features repeating tiles, lights, posters, and even a solitary figure walking towards you. The core challenge lies in detecting anomalies—subtle changes such as a poster with a different graphic, flickering lights, or even a river of blood instead of a floor. The game's mechanic revolves around recognizing these changes and responding quickly.
If you notice something unusual, turn back. If not, keep moving forward. The objective is to reach the eighth exit without faltering, which means correctly spotting and reacting to eight consecutive anomalies. Fail to do so, and you'll have to start over.
The Exit 8 Lets You Soak in a Surreal, Unsettling Atmosphere
Inspired by the concept of liminal spaces and the Backrooms, *The Exit 8*'s design draws heavily from real Japanese metro stations, such as Kiyosumi-Shirakawa Station in Tokyo. This influence is palpable in the game's claustrophobic corridors and repetitive architecture, creating an unsettling yet immersive environment.
The game encourages players to actively engage with their surroundings, searching for the slightest details that could indicate danger or a shift in reality. This constant need to question one's memory and perception ensures that each playthrough feels distinct and unpredictable.
Originally released for PC in November 2023, *The Exit 8* took Kotake Create about nine months to develop. Upon its PC launch, it achieved an impressive 1.4 million downloads worldwide on Steam. Now available on mobile, you can download it from the Google Play Store.
