The Assassin's Creed Shadows themed cafe, a collaboration between Ubisoft and fan Dante Carver, opened in Harajuku, Tokyo on March 20th, 2025. Game8 attended a pre-opening media event, offering a sneak peek at this unique pop-up experience.
A Hidden Gem in Harajuku
A Secret Rendezvous

Despite the bustling atmosphere of Harajuku Station, the cafe, tucked away near Takeshita Street, offered a surprisingly tranquil escape. The mild weather, a welcome change from the recent snowfall, enhanced the pleasant atmosphere.
The cafe, cleverly concealed from casual passersby, was a fittingly clandestine location for an Assassin's Creed celebration. Ubisoft's partnership with Dante Carver transformed the chic dotcom space Tokyo venue into an immersive experience. Game8 extends its gratitude to Ubisoft for the invitation to this media preview. The Venue: dotcom space Tokyo
A Stylish Setting

The entrance, boldly displaying "Assassin's Creed Shadows" in neon lights, left no doubt about the venue's theme. The striking illumination featured Yasuke and Naoe, the game's protagonists, alongside the Assassin's Brotherhood emblem.
dotcom space Tokyo provided a modern, minimalist backdrop. The predominantly white space, with exposed ceilings and a slightly worn floor, was accented by beige furniture and stylish drink machines. The seating arrangement, including long tables and smaller areas, comfortably accommodated approximately 40-50 guests.

The Assassin's Creed theme was subtly integrated. Posters from the game series adorned the walls, alongside artwork and pillows featuring Ubisoft's logo. Art books and encyclopedias from previous entries added to the ambiance, complemented by a projector displaying footage from a Kyoto event. Instead of the projector's audio, classic Assassin's Creed background music created a fitting atmosphere. Several exhibits, detailed below, were located towards the rear of the venue.

The Menu: Surprisingly Affordable
Delicious Delights at Reasonable Prices

The cafe's pricing was remarkably reasonable for a themed experience. Drinks ranged from 650 to 750 yen (approximately $4-$5 USD), while food items were priced at 800 yen (approximately $5.30 USD). While slightly more expensive than standard vending machine drinks, the specialty drinks and branded merchandise justified the cost. A free goodie bag (while supplies lasted) and additional gifts with food or drink purchases further enhanced the value.
The drink menu included five options:
⚫︎ Cafe Latte for the Assassin who Serves the Light - 650円
⚫︎ Cafe Mocha for the Assassin who Works in the Dark - 750円
⚫︎ Shadows 檸檬水 (Lemonade in Japanese) - 700円
⚫︎ Valhalla Sitronbrus (Lemonade in Norwegian) - 700円
⚫︎ Odyssey λεμονάδα (Lemonade in Greek) - 700円
The food menu featured two choices:
⚫︎ Assassin’s Creed Dolce Set - 800円
⚫︎ Assassin’s Creed Crest Toast - 800円
As part of the media event, both food items were provided, with a choice of one drink. Opting for the Shadows Lemonade to complement the launch, the order arrived with a tote bag of goodies.
The Food: A Mixed Bag
Toast Triumphs, Dolce Disappoints

The aroma of melted cheese was immediately noticeable. The cheese toast, adorned with an Assassin's Brotherhood logo (possibly paprika), was served with syrup. The savory cheese complemented the sweetness of the syrup perfectly. While slightly lukewarm due to photography delays, the soft bread crumb and slightly crisp crust provided a delightful texture.

The Shadows Lemonade, possibly a cranberry-lemonade soda, offered a refreshing contrast.

The Dolce Set, comprising a madeleine and a logo-decorated cookie, presented a mixed experience. The moist madeleine, with its almond flavor, was enjoyable but dense. The cookie, while visually appealing, had a thick, hard icing that proved challenging to eat. The cookie's cocoa flavor was subtle, overshadowed by the sweetness of the icing.
The Exhibitions: A Collector's Delight
Intricate Details and Impressive Replicas
After enjoying the food, the exhibits provided a closer look at in-game items. Replicas of Yasuke's mask and Naoe's Hidden Blade were on display, alongside mannequins dressed in accurate recreations of the protagonists' outfits. Origami, figurines, and a striking painting of Yasuke and Naoe completed the display. Many of the items were available for purchase through PureArts.
Is It Worth a Visit?
A Rewarding Experience for Fans

The cafe's success will depend on several factors, including the game's popularity, the venue's location, and the limited-time nature of the event (March 22nd-23rd, 11am-6:30pm).
For Assassin's Creed fans, the cafe offers a worthwhile experience, provided expectations are managed. The immersive experience is subtle, focusing on themed food, drinks, and merchandise. The reasonable prices, delicious cheese toast, free gifts (while supplies last), and impressive exhibitions make it a worthwhile visit.
