Formovie Episode One Hardware Review: Projection Paradise?

Author : Eric Update:May 20,2025

At Droid Gamers, we often receive a variety of gadgets to review, but a projector was a fresh addition to our lineup. The Formovie Episode One caught our attention due to its promise of streaming mobile games onto a larger screen, making it an intriguing piece of tech to explore.

Designed with budget-conscious consumers in mind, the Episode One manages to deliver on its promise of affordability while offering more than expected. Despite a few hiccups, this projector stands out as a cost-effective choice.

Upon unboxing, you'll find the projector, a remote (batteries not included), a power cable, and a manual. While it may not have the substantial feel of pricier models, its lighter weight—only three pounds—enhances its portability, making it easy to take on the go.

The connectivity options are somewhat limited, with just one USB-A port, one HDMI port, and a single audio jack. However, this is typical for a unit at this price point and should suffice for most users' needs.

Performance-wise, the Episode One performs admirably given its cost. With 150 ISO lumens, it's not the brightest or most powerful laser-based projector available. It struggled in bright sunlight during our tests but shone in darker settings, as expected.

For the best image quality, we recommend placing the projector at least 10 feet away from the screen. The sound output, while functional, is somewhat tinny, suggesting that pairing it with an external speaker would enhance the audio experience.

The user interface is one of the Episode One's strengths. Its straightforward setup and user-friendly design make it more accessible than some of the more expensive projectors we've tested, despite its budget approach.

Overall, the Formovie Episode One is an excellent entry point into the world of projectors. It may not excel in any one area, but it's a reliable all-rounder that should meet the needs of most casual users perfectly.

*If you decide to purchase an Episode One projector, you'll also receive a Netflix gift card valued at $15/€15. This offer is only available until May 27th, so be sure to click here to check it out.*
