F-Zero: Climax and GP Legend Join Switch Online
Nintendo's announcement brings two iconic titles to the service. F-Zero: GP Legend, a global release from 2004, joins the Japan-exclusive F-Zero Climax, finally making its way to a worldwide audience.

The F-Zero series, a cornerstone of Nintendo's racing legacy, debuted in Japan in 1990. Known for its groundbreaking speed and technological advancements for its time, the series has influenced other racing franchises, notably SEGA's Daytona USA. The gameplay, similar to Mario Kart, blends high-octane racing with track obstacles and intense competitive battles using unique "F-Zero machines." Captain Falcon, the series' protagonist, even makes appearances in Super Smash Bros.
F-Zero: GP Legend initially launched in Japan in 2003, followed by an international release the next year. F-Zero Climax, released in Japan in 2004, has remained region-locked until now, marking a significant 19-year gap since its release and the recent launch of F-Zero 99 on Switch. Game designer Takaya Imamura has attributed the series' extended hiatus to the overwhelming popularity of Mario Kart.
This October 2024 update to the Switch Online + Expansion Pack gives subscribers access to both F-Zero Climax and F-Zero: GP Legend, offering various race modes including Grand Prix, story modes, and time trials. Prepare for intense competition and the exhilarating speed that defined the F-Zero legacy.
