The future of Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) on PC remains unconfirmed, but recent statements from Take-Two Interactive's CEO, Strauss Zelnick, hint at a potential PC release down the line. Dive into the latest developments and what this could mean for GTA 6's future.
GTA 6 on PC: Unconfirmed but Hinted at by Take-Two
While Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) has yet to be officially announced for PC, the buzz around its eventual availability on the platform is growing. In a conversation with IGN on February 10, 2025, Take-Two Interactive's CEO Strauss Zelnick touched on the platform strategy for their upcoming titles.
Zelnick revealed that Civilization 7 would launch on both console and PC simultaneously, but for other titles, including potentially GTA 6, the approach differs. He noted, "Historically, Rockstar has started with some platforms and then historically moved to other platforms."
Looking back, GTA 5 was initially released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in September 2013, followed by PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in November 2014, and finally on PC in April 2015. Similarly, Red Dead Redemption 2 debuted on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in October 2018, with a PC version following in November 2019.
Though no concrete confirmation has been made for GTA 6 on PC, Zelnick's comments suggest a strong interest from Take-Two in eventually bringing the game to PC. Fans of the series have long hoped for a simultaneous PC launch, but it appears the tradition of staggered releases may continue.
Take-Two's Confidence in GTA 6's Multiplatform Success
Zelnick highlighted the increasing significance of the PC platform for their games, stating that a PC version can account for up to 40% of a game's total sales. He observed, "We have seen PC become a much more and more important part of what used to be a console business, and I wouldn't be surprised to see that trend continue."
Despite declining console sales for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, Zelnick remains optimistic about GTA 6's performance across all platforms. He believes the game will not only sell well but also boost console sales for Sony and Xbox. "When you have a big title in the market and we have many of them coming, historically that has sold consoles," he explained.
Zelnick anticipates a surge in console sales in 2025 due to a robust release schedule, not only from Take-Two but from other developers as well. He added, "So I'm not concerned about that [console sales falling]. I think the trend that you'd want to focus on is this increasing share of the market that is reflected in PC."
GTA 6 is slated for a Fall 2025 release, though no specific date has been announced. For the latest updates on the game, be sure to visit our Grand Theft Auto 6 page.
More Take-Two and Rockstar Games Possibly Coming to Switch 2
During the Take-Two Interactive Q3 Fiscal Conference Call on February 6, 2025, Zelnick expressed enthusiasm about bringing their games to the upcoming Switch 2 console. He highlighted their longstanding relationship with Nintendo and their willingness to support the platform when it aligns with their release strategy.
Zelnick noted a shift in Nintendo's audience, stating, "the Switch device can support any audience." With Civilization 7 already announced for the Switch, he added, "So while we have nothing specific to report, we actually would fully expect to support Switch."
