I stumbled upon my first Essence Stone while scavenging for items to break the Fire Seal on Floor 60. However, these chests can appear on any level and across different biomes within the mines. Be cautious of mimic enemies that disguise themselves as chests; interacting with them can lead to damage.
Essence Stones come in four sizes: tiny, small, medium, and large. While the smaller stones are more common, diligent exploration can lead to discovering larger deposits. If finding them proves challenging, consider crafting them at the Stone Refinery, which you can build within the mines.

How To Craft Essence Stones in Fields of Mistria

The Stone Refinery, a new addition to *Fields of Mistria* introduced in the March 2025 update, allows you to craft Essence Stones. Accessing this feature involves completing a new story quest that leads you to construct the refinery inside the mines, with the help of characters Adeline, Olric, and Errol.
To build the Stone Refinery, you will need:
- x200 Wood
- x400 Stone
- x5,000 Tesserae
Once the refinery is up and running, you can craft Essence Stones of various sizes using Stone and Essence. The amount of materials required varies with the size of the stone. Here's a breakdown of the crafting requirements:

How To Use Essence Stones in Fields of Mistria
The March 2025 update brought the much-anticipated auto-petter and sprinkler mechanics to *Fields of Mistria*, both of which depend on Essence Stones to function. Larger stones provide a more extended charge, with Large Essence Stones offering the longest duration.

The auto-petter mechanic is activated through the Animal Sprite Statue, which you can place in Large Barns and Coops. This statue automatically pets all animals inside daily, as long as an Essence Stone is powering it. You can locate this rare item in a concealed cave near Errol’s house in the Narrows by using the Dragon’s Breath spell to unlock the entrance. Once unlocked, you can craft additional statues as needed.
Similarly, the sprinkler mechanic is facilitated by the Water Sprite Statue, which can be placed anywhere on your farm. It automatically waters crops within a 2-tile radius when an Essence Stone is in use. You can find this statue, along with a crafting scroll, on a small island east of the beach, past the Lighthouse area. Access it by swimming and using Dragon’s Breath to enter.
As *Fields of Mistria* continues to evolve with updates from NPC Studio, Essence Stones are poised to become even more integral to the game's mechanics.
