Happy Gilmore 2 has achieved the most successful opening weekend for any Netflix film in the U.S., while KPop Demon Hunters is now the most-watched animated film ever on the platform.
The Adam Sandler sequel amassed more than 46.7 million views in its first three days, marking the biggest weekend debut for a Sandler movie on Netflix—an impressive feat, given the comedian's long-standing partnership with the studio. However, KPop Demon Hunters, released on June 20, is not stepping back from these records without making its own impact on the charts.
In fact, the animated feature has become Netflix's most-viewed animated film of all time and reached what the streamer refers to as a "new viewing peak" during its fifth week. This week, KPop Demon Hunters delivered a solid 26.3 million views, though still trailing significantly behind the numbers posted by Sandler’s latest release.
Even so, both films are performing exceptionally well for the platform and resonating deeply with viewers, making it clear they will continue to draw strong viewership and potentially set more records.
Happy Gilmore 2 is the highly anticipated follow-up to the 1996 comedy about an unconventional hockey player who turns to golf to save his grandmother’s home from foreclosure. Sandler, of course, returns in the title role, alongside returning cast members Julie Bowen, Christopher McDonald, Ben Stiller, Dennis Dugan, and Kevin Nealon.
KPop Demon Hunters is a new animated musical fantasy that chronicles the double life of KPop girl group Huntr/x—singers by day, demon hunters by night. The voice cast includes Lost alumni Daniel Dae Kim and Yujin Kim, popular comedian Ken Jeong, Teen Wolf's Arden Cho, and a lineup of acclaimed South Korean actors and singers.
Both Happy Gilmore 2 and KPop Demon Hunters are now available to stream on Netflix.
