Helldivers 2 Creative Director Dreams of Epic Crossovers, But Prioritizes Game's Identity

Johan Pilestedt, creative director of Helldivers 2, recently revealed his wish list of dream crossovers for the game, sparking excitement among fans. His initial suggestion, a collaboration with the tabletop game Trench Crusade, ignited a conversation about the potential for integrating other iconic franchises.
Pilestedt's enthusiasm extends to major sci-fi properties like Starship Troopers, Terminator, Warhammer 40,000, Alien, Predator, Star Wars, and even Blade Runner. However, he acknowledges the challenges and potential pitfalls. He emphasizes that incorporating too many crossovers could compromise the game's unique satirical, militaristic tone, stating, "if we were to do all of them, it would dilute the IP and make it a ‘not helldivers’ experience."

While acknowledging the popularity of crossover content in live-service games, Pilestedt highlights Arrowhead Studios' commitment to maintaining Helldivers 2's cohesive universe. He remains open to both large and small-scale collaborations, such as individual weapons or character skins acquired through in-game currency, but stresses these are purely personal preferences and no decisions have been finalized.

The prospect of Helldivers facing Xenomorphs alongside Jango Fett or the Terminator is certainly intriguing, but the ultimate decision rests with the developers. For now, the focus remains on preserving the core identity of Helldivers 2. Whether or not these exciting crossover possibilities will ever materialize remains to be seen.
