League of Legends is bringing back Hextech Chests after receiving fan feedback. Read on to learn more about the upcoming update and what's next for LoL.
League of Legends Back Tracks on Their Unpopular Changes
Hextech Chests Are Coming Back
League of Legends (LoL) is reintroducing Hextech Chests following extensive fan feedback. Riot Games announced this change in a developer update on their website on February 27, 2025, accompanied by a detailed video on their YouTube channel.LoL acknowledged that their recent changes did not meet fan expectations, stating, "Recently, we’ve made a number of changes that didn’t hit the mark for everyone. We’ve been listening to your feedback, and it’s clear that there are areas where we need to adjust."
One significant change that fans were vocal about was the removal of Hextech Chests. LoL recognized the importance of these chests, explaining, "It’s clear that for many of you, Hextech Chests weren’t just a way to get stuff, they were an important part of making your time in League feel rewarding. We didn’t fully grasp how much this mattered to you, and that led us to make changes that missed the mark."
In response, Hextech Chests will return starting with patch 25.05, allowing players to earn up to 10 chests and keys per act. Eight of these chests will be available through the free pass, with the remaining two obtainable via the Honor system.
Exalted Mordekaiser Delayed and More Fan Feedback Changes
Riot Games also announced a delay for the upcoming Exalted Mordekaiser skin, as the team aims to "take more time to make sure it better delivers on its core fantasy." This delay extends to the entire Exalted skin line, meaning fans won't see a new skin in every Act this year as initially planned.
In response to further fan feedback, LoL will replace one of the non-Prestige skins with 25 Mythic Essence, addressing concerns about the lack of Mythic Essence on the paid Pass and the frequency of new champion skins.
LoL values fans' accessibility to their champions, and in light of recent discussions about blue essence and champion shards, the game will reduce the Blue Essence cost for all champions by 50% starting with patch 25.05.
Another decision Riot Games is reversing involves Clash. Previously, they had planned to run Clash less often, but now they are reinstating a monthly schedule. "March’s Clash event will be ARURF, then we’ll run a regular SR Clash in April," they announced.
Blue Essence Emporium and Your Shop Returns
LoL is also bringing back fan-favorite shops, responding to numerous requests for these features. Your Shop and the Blue Essence Emporium will return for their first runs this year, with Your Shop scheduled for patch 25.06 and the Emporium for 25.07.
Riot Games emphasized their commitment to continuous improvement, stating, "We know getting League to the right place isn’t about just one set of changes. It’s about continually refining and improving the game in ways that make it better. We think today’s updates are an important step, and we’ll keep tracking how these changes feel, talking with all of you about how things are landing, and making adjustments."
With these recent responses, it's clear that Riot Games is actively listening to their fans and striving to create a game that aligns with their audience's desires.
