A Pokémon player's popularity has reached an unprecedented level – or perhaps it's a glitch? A short video showcases the player besieged by incessant phone calls from two persistent NPCs. The player is essentially trapped, unable to move while relentlessly bombarded with calls.
Pokémon Gold and Silver introduced a phone feature allowing players to exchange numbers with certain NPCs after battles. These calls often include friendly updates or rematch offers. However, this player's experience deviates significantly from the norm. The video shows the player stuck in a Pokémon Center, repeatedly receiving calls from Wade the Bug Catcher and Youngster Joey.
The initial calls seem normal enough: Wade discusses his Caterpie training, and Joey proposes a rematch on Route 30. The problem arises from the calls' relentless repetition. After each call concludes, the phone immediately rings again, with the same NPC repeating their previous message. This creates an inescapable loop of calls, preventing the player from progressing.
The cause of this incessant calling remains unclear. While Youngster Joey's calls are known for their repetitive nature, this level of persistence is unusual. The player, FodderWadder, suspects a save file glitch. Other players, however, find the situation humorous, suggesting the NPCs are simply overly enthusiastic conversationalists.
Although Pokémon Gold and Silver allow deleting phone numbers, the game automatically answers incoming calls. FodderWadder eventually escaped the onslaught, but only after a considerable struggle to find a moment between calls to access the menu, delete the numbers, and finally leave the Pokémon Center. This experience, however, has left them hesitant to register new numbers, fearing a recurrence of this incessant calling.
