IGN has exciting news for fans of the highly anticipated game Hollow Knight: Silksong. The game will be available to play at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) in Melbourne from September 18, 2025. This opportunity comes as part of ACMI's video game exhibition, Game Worlds, which will not only allow visitors to experience the game but also explore its design and artistic direction in detail.
Developed by Team Cherry, based in Adelaide, South Australia, Silksong has been eagerly awaited by gamers worldwide, consistently topping the Steam wishlist chart. Although Team Cherry has only confirmed a release window for 2025, the playable demo at ACMI suggests that a full release might be imminent, potentially even before the September showcase.

Bethan Johnson and Jini Maxwell, co-curators at ACMI, expressed their excitement about showcasing Silksong. "Since its announcement in 2019, Hollow Knight: Silksong has been one of the most eagerly awaited indie games globally," they said. "We're thrilled to celebrate this South Australian-made game as a centerpiece of our Game Worlds exhibition. Our displays will delve into the intricate details of the game's artistic direction and design, including the hundreds of sprites that animate Hornet’s movements and attacks, as well as the logic behind the game’s challenging boss fights. We're grateful to Team Cherry for entrusting us with their work and excited to share it with our visitors."
ACMI has also shared a sprite sheet from Silksong, showcasing one of the many design elements that will be on display. This image, provided to IGN with permission, offers a glimpse into the meticulous craftsmanship behind the game.
While the playable demo at ACMI hints at a possible release before September 18, fans are hopeful that Silksong might see the light of day as early as August. The game recently made a brief appearance at Nintendo’s Switch 2 Direct, signaling that things are moving forward. This was the most significant update on Silksong in years, featuring a few seconds of new gameplay and confirming Team Cherry's updated launch plans for 2025.
Hollow Knight: Silksong was originally confirmed for Nintendo Switch and PC, with versions for Xbox (including Game Pass), PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5 to follow. The game has been at the center of numerous intriguing teases over the years, including a mysterious chocolate cake recipe shared by Team Cherry at the start of 2025, sparking speculation about an April re-reveal.
