In an exciting revelation at Gamescom, Mortal Kombat co-founder Ed Boon shared insights on how Mortal Kombat 1 will differentiate between the iconic characters Omni-Man and Homelander. Boon's interview with IGN addressed fans' concerns about potential similarities in combat styles between the two heroes, assuring that NetherRealm Studios is taking a distinct approach to ensure players experience unique gameplay with each character.
Boon emphasized the creative freedom the team has to innovate with these characters, stating, "Obviously, we could do anything with the characters, but I don’t think we’re going to have both Homelander and Omni-Man have heat vision or something like that." This approach aims to avoid overlapping Superman-esque abilities and instead focus on individualizing the heroes' movesets.
Furthermore, Boon explained how the development team drew inspiration from the heroes' actions in their respective shows to craft their Fatalities. "They’re definitely going to play differently. The main attacks are going to really differentiate them, but we’re definitely aware of the assumption that some people were making on, 'Oh, they’re just going to be the same characters.'" This commitment to differentiation promises an engaging and diverse combat experience for players.
