Honkai: Star Rail Version 3.1 Leak Hints at Free 4-Star Character Selector
Recent leaks suggest Honkai: Star Rail Version 3.1 will include a free 4-star character selector, potentially as part of a limited-time event. This selector would allow players to choose one of four units: Qingque, Pela, Serval, or Asta.
This news comes as Honkai: Star Rail's 3.0 update approaches, introducing new gameplay elements and characters. The game currently boasts 23 4-star characters, with varying degrees of meta relevance. While some, like Moze and Gallagher, have gained popularity, many 4-stars require significant Eidolon investment to reach their full potential. Past updates, such as Versions 2.1 and 2.7, offered free character selectors to help players acquire these Eidolons.
The leak, originating from prominent leaker HomDGCat, indicates a similar event is planned for Version 3.1. The offered characters – Qingque (Quantum, Erudition), Pela (Ice, Nihility), Serval (Lightning, Erudition), and Asta (Fire, Harmony) – all debuted in Version 1.0, with Asta even being an early-game acquisition. This aligns with earlier speculation that future releases might focus primarily on 5-star characters, potentially explaining the lack of new 4-star additions.
While Pela and Asta remain viable support units, Qingque and Serval have been largely outclassed by newer DPS characters. Furthermore, all four are available for purchase in the in-game store. The ongoing trend of releasing more 5-star characters (nearly 40 currently, with eight more expected in Amphoreus and potentially two more from the Fate/Stay Night crossover) compared to 4-star characters (only four new ones in Version 2.0, including March 7th's alternate form) further supports this potential shift in focus. This raises concerns about the future availability of new 4-star units for similar selectors.
Despite this, Version 3.0 promises exciting additions, including the highly anticipated characters Herta and Aglaea. To assist players in preparing for these additions, Honkai: Star Rail recently released redeem codes for Stellar Jades and materials.
