Hyper Light Breaker offers players a diverse array of characters, known as Breakers, each with distinct playstyles to tackle the menacing Abyss King. Unlocking new characters in this game is straightforward, yet the process isn't explicitly detailed in-game. This guide will help you understand how to unlock new Breakers and provide an overview of the characters available in the early access version of Hyper Light Breaker. We will continue to update this guide as more characters become unlockable.
How to Get New Characters in Hyper Light Breaker
To unlock new characters, you'll need to collect Abyss Stones, which are exclusively dropped by defeating Crowns, the game's bosses. Before facing the Crowns, you must first obtain Prisms, which serve as keys to access the boss arenas. You can locate Prisms on the map by following the golden diamond icon.
After defeating a boss, return to the teleporter at the Cursed Outpost and choose the Breaker you wish to unlock. Use your Abyss Stones to unlock the selected character, making them playable. Currently, there are nine characters in total, but only two are unlockable in the early access version. The method for unlocking the remaining characters is yet to be revealed.
All Characters in Hyper Light Breaker
Each character in Hyper Light Breaker comes equipped with a SyCom, a crucial item that sets their base stats and core perk, ultimately defining their playstyle. Here’s a detailed look at each character and their unique abilities:
Vermillion
Vermillion is the initial character you'll encounter, equipped with the Gunslinger SyCom, which enhances his ranged combat capabilities. His Rail shots benefit from a chain-crit mechanic, ensuring a guaranteed critical hit following a critical Rail shot.
For those who enjoy melee combat, Vermillion can switch to the Tank SyCom, which boosts armor upon perfect parries and offers superior defensive and melee stats compared to Gunslinger, providing a safer playstyle.
Lapis
Lapis starts with the Lightweaver SyCom, which amplifies the damage of her Rail shots after collecting a Battery. However, her standout feature is the Warrior SyCom, which incrementally increases her core stats with every upgrade she receives.
Lapis excels with both SyComs, but the Warrior SyCom transforms her into a formidable force, capable of outstripping other Breakers in terms of raw power as she accumulates upgrades.
Goro
Goro focuses on ranged combat, starting with the Astrologer SyCom that speeds up his Blade skill recharge while shooting. His unlockable Sniper SyCom boosts his critical hit rate, making him a high-risk, high-reward choice.
Goro is categorized as a ranged glass cannon, offering greater damage potential than Vermillion and Lapis but lacking in defensive capabilities. Mastering Goro requires skill and strategy, but when played correctly, he can be devastatingly effective.
