Popular YouTuber Jacksepticeye (real name Seán William McLoughlin) has shared disappointing news about a canceled passion project - revealing he spent a full year developing an animated adaptation of the cult horror game Soma before it fell through.
In his recent video titled 'A Bad Month,' the Irish content creator opened up about multiple stalled creative ventures, including this particularly heartbreaking Soma project that left him "quite upset."

The 2015 survival horror title from Frictional Games (creators of Amnesia) earned widespread critical praise and remains one of Jacksepticeye's all-time favorite gaming experiences. His emotional connection to Soma's profound narrative made its cancellation especially painful.
"We were making really great progress, talking with the developers for about a year," Jacksepticeye explained. "We were ready to go into full production when suddenly it all fell apart because another party wanted to go in 'a different direction.' I'm quite upset about what actually went down."
The creator intentionally avoided naming specific collaborators but described how the abrupt cancellation completely derailed his 2025 plans. "I had structured my entire year around this project," he lamented. "Now everything's flipped upside down."
This creative setback follows Frictional Games' recent shift in direction. After releasing Amnesia: The Bunker in 2023, creative director Thomas Grip stated the studio wanted to move beyond pure horror: "We're exploring themes outside of making things spooky while maintaining our focus on immersive emotional experiences."
Despite the disappointment, Jacksepticeye remains committed to sharing meaningful projects with his audience, though he admits this experience has left him questioning his next creative steps.
