Jason Momoa's portrayal of Lobo is eagerly anticipated in the 2026 DC Universe film, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Momoa, previously known for his role as Aquaman in the now-defunct DC Extended Universe (DCEU), is set to make his debut as the iconic alien bounty hunter in the rebooted DC Universe (DCU).
Lobo, a character created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen, first appeared in Omega Men #3 in 1983. Hailing from the planet Czarnia, Lobo is an interstellar mercenary with superhuman strength and immortality, much like Superman, as he is the last survivor of his now-extinct world. Momoa has expressed that Lobo is his favorite comic book character, highlighting their aesthetic similarities as a key factor in his excitement for the role.
From Aquaman to Lobo, Jason Momoa is crossing DC universes.
In an interview with ScreenRant, Momoa provided a glimpse into what fans can expect from Lobo's appearance in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. He emphasized his enthusiasm for the role, stating, "Well, this is the role I've always wanted to play. That’s the comic I loved, so I'm really nervous about it. It’s kind of a no-brainer to play this character. It's pretty big. I don't want to give away too much, but I mean, we look pretty dead on, exactly like the character, and he’s pretty rough and gruff and… I'll say the bike’s really cool."
When asked about Lobo's screen time, Momoa clarified that his role is more of a cameo, saying, "It’s her movie, so it's great. I just come in for a little bit."
In January, DC co-chief James Gunn shared the first photo of Milly Alcock as Supergirl on Bluesky, marking the start of production for *Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow*. Alcock, known for her role in *House of the Dragon*, will portray Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl. The film draws heavily from the graphic novel of the same name by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Norgueira. The story follows an alien girl named Ruthye Marye Knoll, who seeks Supergirl's help to avenge her father's murder by the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills. Matthias Schoenaerts plays Krem, while Eve Ridley takes on the role of Ruthye. The cast also includes David Krumholtz as Supergirl's father Zor-El and Emily Beecham as her mother.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is set to hit theaters in June 2026, following James Gunn's Superman and preceding the DCU's Clayface movie, scheduled for September 2026.
