Despite requiring players to sign NDAs to prevent details of EA's upcoming untitled Battlefield game from leaking online, the information found its way to the internet anyway. Dozens of videos and screenshots have surfaced, showcasing the gameplay from the closed playtesting sessions.
As previously reported when the leaks first appeared, the footage appears to confirm the "modern" setting that Vince Zampella had teased earlier, setting this game apart from its predecessors. A quick browse through the Battlefield subreddit reveals numerous firefights, glimpses of the game's destructible environments, and several new mechanics. These include the ability to hang off vehicles and drag wounded teammates out of danger.
What's particularly surprising is EA's apparent lack of action against these leaks. Typically, game publishers are quick to combat unauthorized early footage due to the potential presence of incomplete animations, unfinished UI, and subpar graphics. Yet, despite participants breaching their confidentiality agreements by sharing content, EA has not issued any takedowns.
This leniency might stem from the positive reception the leaked content has received, in stark contrast to the lukewarm response to Battlefield 2042. Fans seem genuinely pleased with what they've seen so far.
One player expressed cautious optimism, saying, "I am scared to say that but this game is shaping up very damn well. I hope there are no catches…" Another added, "The animations of the weapons moving around while running / doing anything look better than 2042 to me."
Enthusiasm continued with comments like, "Dude, even in a pre-alpha state, the explosions, bullets, and projectiles whizzing by, buildings crumbling down, dust kicking up. This has so much potential!" and "I can't get over how good the sounds and the destruction look at alpha."
EA anticipates launching its next Battlefield game during the fiscal year 2026, which spans from April 2025 to March 2026. Following the first official unveiling last month, it's been confirmed that the new Battlefield will feature a traditional, single-player, linear campaign—a welcome return for fans who missed it in the multiplayer-focused Battlefield 2042.
