Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP's Resurgence: Over 200,000 Copies Sold!
Released late last year, the Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP remaster has reportedly surpassed 200,000 units sold, demonstrating strong player demand. Despite initial technical hiccups and some controversy, the game's sales figures highlight its enduring appeal.
Developed by Dragami Games (Grasshopper Manufacture, the original developer, did not return for the remaster), this action-packed hack-and-slash title features a visual overhaul and quality-of-life improvements. Players once again take on the role of Juliet Starling, a chainsaw-wielding cheerleader battling hordes of zombies.
This sales milestone, achieved across current and last-gen consoles, and PC, was announced by Dragami Games via a recent tweet. The success comes several months after the September 2024 launch.
Celebrating Success: A Look at Lollipop Chainsaw's Legacy
The game casts players as Juliet, a San Romero High cheerleader who discovers her zombie-hunting heritage when her school is invaded by the undead. Fans of titles like Bayonetta will appreciate the over-the-top, third-person action combat.
While the RePOP remaster has exceeded 200,000 sales, the original 2012 release on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 sold over a million copies. This initial success can be attributed in part to the unique collaboration between Goichi Suda (the iconic game designer) and James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy filmmaker), who contributed to the game's narrative.
Whether this renewed success will lead to future content or a sequel remains uncertain. However, it bodes well for remasters of other niche titles. This positive trend is further supported by the recent release of Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered, another successful remaster from Grasshopper Manufacture's catalog.
