Tidepool Games has launched a thrilling new game on Android called MageTrain, which combines fast-paced action with pixel art aesthetics. If you're familiar with Nimble Quest, you'll find MageTrain's gameplay strikingly similar, as it heavily draws inspiration from this classic.
What's MageTrain Like?
MageTrain is a unique blend of Snake, auto-battlers, and roguelikes. You control a line of heroes that trail behind you like a snake, each autonomously attacking as you navigate through an arena. Your role is to strategically manage the positioning of your heroes, deciding who leads and who follows, as their abilities vary based on their position in the train.
At launch, MageTrain offers nine heroes, including one who can throw birds, each with distinct skills that change depending on their role in the line. You'll journey through eight different dungeons, battle against 28 types of enemies, and have access to 30 skills to enhance your team. Along the way, you'll collect gold and power-ups, which add to the excitement and strategy of each run.
The roguelike nature of MageTrain ensures that no two runs are the same. You'll navigate branching paths, make crucial upgrade decisions, and aim to survive as long as possible. This setup is reminiscent of games like Slay the Spire or FTL, where levels are not fixed, and progress cannot be saved. If you make a mistake or get overwhelmed, you'll have to start over.
It Isn’t Slow-Paced
The fun in MageTrain comes from the continuous improvement you experience with each run, even when you lose. You'll learn when to play defensively, when to go all-out on offense, and when to simply hold on for another 30 seconds.
MageTrain is now available to download for free on the Google Play Store. Don't miss out on this exciting new game!
