Hashino, when discussing future projects, expressed interest in developing a game set during Japan's Sengoku period. He envisions this historical setting as ideal for a new Japanese role-playing game (JRPG), potentially drawing inspiration from the Basara series.
Currently, there are no concrete plans to create a Metaphor: ReFantazio sequel, though Hashino emphasized his commitment to completing the current project. He revealed that the game was initially conceived as the third major JRPG series following Persona and Shin Megami Tensei, aiming for it to become a flagship title for Atlus.
While a direct sequel is unlikely, the team is already working on their next project. An anime adaptation, however, is under consideration. Metaphor: ReFantazio has been a significant success for Atlus, achieving the company's best-ever concurrent player count on release, exceeding 85,961 players. This surpasses the concurrent player counts of Persona 5 Royal (35,474) and Persona 3 Reload (45,002). The game is available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
