NetherRealm Studios, the developer behind Mortal Kombat 1, has unveiled the first gameplay footage for the highly anticipated DLC guest character, the T-1000, and confirmed the addition of Madam Bo as a DLC Kameo fighter. This exciting update promises to bring new depth and excitement to the game's roster.
The T-1000 gameplay showcases a variety of attacks that evoke memories of the iconic Terminator 2 film, including the use of blade and hook arms. Fans of the series will notice similarities to the moves of Baraka and Kabal. A standout moment features the T-1000 transforming into a liquid metal blob before executing an uppercut reminiscent of Glacius from Killer Instinct.
Adding to the authenticity, the T-1000 is voiced by Robert Patrick, who portrayed the character in the 1991 film. In the teaser, Patrick's voice work is showcased during a confrontation with Johnny Cage. The teaser culminates with a dramatic Fatality that recreates the memorable truck chase scene from Terminator 2, where the T-1000 morphs out of the driver’s seat to unleash a barrage of bullets on Johnny Cage.
Simultaneously, NetherRealm surprised fans with the announcement of Madam Bo joining Mortal Kombat 1 as a DLC Kameo fighter. Known from the game's base story as a beloved elderly restaurant owner, Madam Bo's brief gameplay appearance during the T-1000 and Johnny Cage clash demonstrates her potential as a valuable ally in battle. The T-1000 will be available starting March 18 during the early access period for Khaos Reigns owners, with a wider release for purchase on March 25. Madam Bo will be accessible on March 18 as a free update for Khaos Reigns owners or as a standalone purchase.
As the final DLC character in the Khaos Reigns expansion, the T-1000 follows a lineup that includes Cyrax, Sektor, Noob Saibot, Ghostface, and Conan the Barbarian. While fans speculate about the possibility of a third set of DLC characters or a Kombat Pack 3, the future of Mortal Kombat 1 remains uncertain amid questions about its sales performance.
However, Warner Bros. Discovery, the parent company, remains committed to the Mortal Kombat franchise. In November, CEO David Zaslav announced plans to focus on just four titles, with Mortal Kombat being one of them.

In an interview with IGN in June 2023, Boon discussed the factors behind the decision to release Mortal Kombat 1 instead of an Injustice sequel. Key reasons included the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the switch to the newer Unreal Engine 4 from Unreal Engine 3 used in Mortal Kombat 11. Despite these challenges, Boon remains optimistic about returning to the Injustice series in the future.
