Player First Games has announced that MultiVersus Season 5 will be its final season, marking the end of the Warner Bros. platform fighting game on May 30, 2025, at 9 a.m. PST. The studio shared this news through a blog post on their official website, detailing the closure of the game that originally launched on May 28 of the previous year. Season 5 is set to kick off next week on February 4 and will run until the game's final day. At that point, online play will cease, but Player First has assured players that all earned and purchased content will remain accessible offline through local gameplay and training modes.
The MultiVersus team expressed their gratitude in a heartfelt message: "Most importantly, we want to thank every player and person who has ever played or supported MultiVersus. All of us on the Player First Games and Warner Bros. Games teams have poured our heart and soul into this game. We will be forever grateful for the incredible support of the MultiVersus community throughout this journey."

Player First Games has also announced that real-money transactions for MultiVersus have been discontinued as of today, though players can still use Gleamium and character tokens to access in-game content until the game's support ends on May 30. Additionally, MultiVersus will be removed from the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store at that time.
The decision to end MultiVersus comes after Warner Bros. Discovery reported the game as a major disappointment. During a financial call in November, the company disclosed that MultiVersus underperformed significantly, leading to a $100 million writedown in its games sector. This added to the total of $300 million in writedowns after the launch of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League in January. Just last week, Variety reported that Warner Bros. Games head David Haddad would be leaving the company following a challenging 2024.
"We took another $100 million plus impairment due to the underperforming releases, primarily MultiVersus this quarter, bringing total writedown year-to-date to over $300 million in our games business, a key factor in this year’s studio profit decline,” stated chief financial officer Gunnar Wiedenfels during the November call.
Despite the game's impending shutdown just days after its one-year anniversary, Season 5 promises to end MultiVersus on a high note. Alongside the typical new content updates, the season will introduce new playable characters: Lola Bunny and Aquaman. Lola Bunny, the Looney Tunes icon, will be unlockable as a daily calendar reward, while Aquaman, the DC superhero, will be available through the battle pass. Both characters will be accessible starting next week, adding an exciting finale to the game's journey.
