The journey to Sesame Street is far from over, much to the delight of fans everywhere. Since its inception in 1969, this cherished children's television series has been a staple of educational entertainment. Now, following the conclusion of its longstanding deal with HBO and Max at the end of 2024, Sesame Street is set to charm audiences on Netflix and PBS.
Starting soon, viewers around the globe can enjoy new episodes of Sesame Street on Netflix, alongside a comprehensive catalog of past episodes. Simultaneously, new episodes will debut on their air day on PBS stations and PBS Kids, maintaining the show's long-standing relationship with public broadcasting. In a move to expand its offerings, Netflix will also leverage this partnership to create video games based on Sesame Street and the spinoff series, Sesame Street Mecha Builders, tapping into the streamer's growing gaming sector.
On May 19, Sesame Street shared the exciting news across its social media platforms. "The support of Netflix, PBS, and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting serve as a unique public-private partnership to enable Sesame Street to continue to help children everywhere grow smarter, stronger, and kinder," stated a post from the Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit organization behind the series.
We are excited to announce that all new Sesame Street episodes are coming to @netflix worldwide along with library episodes, and new episodes will also release the same day on @PBS Stations and @PBSKIDS platforms in the US, preserving a 50+ year relationship.

For its 56th season, Sesame Street will introduce some structural changes. Each episode will now feature an 11-minute story, drawing inspiration from character-driven shows like the popular series, Bluey. However, classic segments such as Elmo's World and Cookie Monster's Foodie Truck will continue to delight audiences.
Sesame Street first aired in November 1969 and joined the PBS network in the 1970s, quickly becoming a cultural phenomenon. In 2015, HBO and Max entered into a $35 million deal to produce new episodes, but this partnership concluded in late 2024 as the streamers shifted focus away from children's programming, citing it as less appealing to subscribers. Despite this, the Sesame Street library will remain accessible on HBO and Max until 2027, extending the original 10-year deal but without the production aspect.
