After nearly a decade of strategic battles and tactical triumphs, Fantasy War Tactics R has officially announced its End of Service (EOS). Yes, the grid-based combat, turn-based planning, and carefully crafted team synergies will soon be a thing of the past. For longtime fans, this news may come as no surprise—but it’s still a heartfelt farewell.
Originally launched in November 2015 by Nexon GT and published by Nexon, the game carved out a niche in the mobile SRPG space with its deep mechanics and accessible progression. However, during Season 2, ownership transitioned to Valofe—a move met with widespread criticism from the community. Since then, many players felt the game gradually lost its original charm and momentum.
When Is the Fantasy War Tactics R EOS?
The servers will officially shut down on July 29th, 2025, at 10:00 AM KST. Ahead of this, several final updates and closures are scheduled:
- In-app purchases will be disabled starting June 24th, 2025, at 08:00 AM KST.
- Players can continue using existing in-game currency for purchases until the service ends.
- If you’ve purchased the Premium Level Up Package but haven’t fully claimed it, a final Premium Set Reward will be distributed after the next maintenance update.
- A special Farewell Event will run from June 24th to July 29th, giving players one last chance to enjoy the game. You can still access Fantasy War Tactics R on the [Google Play Store] for a final playthrough.
Did You Ever Play It?
At its peak, Fantasy War Tactics R was available in 154 countries, offering a rich SRPG experience with 12 regions, 180 dungeons, and a roster of over 50 heroes. Its standout mechanics included directional combat and rock-paper-scissors-style unit interactions, making every battle a test of wit and positioning.
One of its most praised features was the ability to obtain most heroes through gene farming, reducing reliance on gacha luck and giving players more control over their roster development.
However, after the transition to Valofe, the game saw increasingly inconsistent balance changes, slower update cycles, and dwindling community support. Over time, the spark that once defined the game began to fade.
While the Fantasy War Tactics R EOS marks the end of an era, it also serves as a reminder of the game’s impact on the mobile strategy genre. If you played, take a moment to reflect—what was your favorite memory?
