NieR: Automata offers a wide array of weapons across various types, allowing for extensive experimentation throughout multiple playthroughs. Each weapon boasts multiple upgrade levels, ensuring your favorites remain viable for extended periods and enabling you to utilize most weapons throughout the entire game if desired.
Weapon upgrades are readily available at the Resistance Camp, although specific resources are required depending on the weapon. One crucial crafting material, Beast Hides, isn't readily acquired; this guide details how to efficiently obtain them.
Obtaining Beast Hides in NieR: Automata
Beast Hides are obtained by defeating wildlife such as moose and boar. These creatures spawn randomly in specific map areas, generally avoiding players and nearby robots. Their white icons on the mini-map distinguish them from the black icons of machines. Efficient farming of wildlife is challenging due to their less frequent spawns compared to machines; strategic searching is key.
Moose and boar exclusively inhabit the ruined city and forest sections of the game world. Their behavior depends on your level relative to theirs: lower-level animals may flee, while higher-level animals might attack or become aggressive upon proximity. Wildlife possesses substantial health pools, making early-game encounters with similarly leveled or higher-level animals potentially difficult.
Using Animal Bait can lure wildlife closer, simplifying their defeat.
Since wildlife doesn't continuously respawn during the main storyline, you must actively hunt them during exploration. Wildlife and machine respawning follows similar principles:
- Fast traveling resets all enemies and wildlife.
- Traveling a sufficient distance triggers respawning in previously visited areas.
- Key story events can also trigger the respawn of nearby enemies and wildlife.
Regardless of your game progress, efficiently farming Beast Hides isn't straightforward. Consistently eliminating wildlife encountered while traversing the forest and city ruins usually provides sufficient hides. Beast Hides have a relatively high drop rate, ensuring you'll rarely need excessive quantities beyond your immediate equipment needs.
