Nintendo Responds to Switch 2 Leaks from CES 2025
Following the emergence of Switch 2 images from CES 2025, Nintendo has issued a statement clarifying that the circulating imagery is not official. This unusual public response from Nintendo, prompted by an inquiry from the Sankei Shimbun, highlights the significant attention surrounding the upcoming console. The statement emphasizes Nintendo's non-participation in CES 2025, thereby invalidating any Switch 2 material originating from the event as official promotional material.
The Switch 2 has been the subject of numerous leaks since late 2024, a period coinciding with the reported commencement of mass production. One prominent leak featured a Switch 2 replica showcased by accessory manufacturer Genki at CES 2025. Images of this replica quickly spread across social media.
While Nintendo's statement dismisses the leaked images, it offers no comment on their accuracy. However, the Genki replica aligns with previous leaks and rumors, suggesting a potential resemblance to the actual console. Key differences from the original Switch include a slightly larger size and an additional button, labeled "C," positioned beneath the right Joy-Con's home button. The function of this button remains unknown.
Genki CEO Eddie Tsai, while unable to shed light on the "C" button, provided further details, including the alleged magnetic attachment of the Joy-Cons and their potential use as mouse controllers – claims corroborated by other sources.
Nintendo previously announced plans to reveal the Switch successor during its fiscal year 2024 (ending March 31, 2025). With approximately 80 days remaining, anticipation for an official unveiling remains high. A retail launch is not expected before the second quarter of 2025, with a rumored price point around $399.
