Nintendo has officially announced the pricing for upgrading two popular Switch games to their Nintendo Switch 2 Editions: Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree. The cost of these upgrades is significantly higher than what players have seen for other titles.
Previously, upgrading from the original Switch version to the Switch 2 Edition for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was priced at $9.99 each. However, as NintendoLife has reported, the upgrade costs for Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree are more than double that amount.
The Nintendo Switch 2 Enhanced Edition of Breath of the Wild boasts improved visuals and performance, achievements, and integration with the new "Zelda Notes" feature on the Nintendo Switch Online app. Owners of the original Switch version of Breath of the Wild can access these enhancements through an "upgrade pack" priced at $10.
For Kirby and the Forgotten Land, the Switch 2 Edition introduces new story content in the "Star-Crossed World." Meanwhile, Super Mario Party Jamboree's Switch 2 Edition features a new "Jamboree TV" suite that utilizes the Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, Switch 2 microphone, and the separately sold Switch 2 USB-C camera. Additionally, this version offers upgraded resolution up to 1440p in TV mode, improved frame rates, new minigames, and enhanced online functionalities.
While U.S. prices on the American Nintendo eShop are yet to be confirmed—possibly due to uncertainties related to President Trump's tariffs—the UK Nintendo eShop lists the Kirby and the Forgotten Land upgrade pack at £16.99 / €19.99, which is more than double the £7.99 / €9.99 fee for upgrading either Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom.
The upgrade for Super Mario Party Jamboree – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV is similarly priced at £16.99 / €19.99, suggesting a U.S. price of $19.99. This higher upgrade fee may be influenced by the increased cost of the full Switch 2 Editions of these games, which are priced at $79.99 each, compared to $59.99 for their original Switch versions.
Here are the prices for the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games without any upgrade:
- Kirby and The Forgotten Land - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star Crossed World - $79.99
- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - $69.99
- Super Mario Party Jamboree - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV - $79.99
- The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - $79.99
It's worth noting that the upgrade packs for Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom are available at no additional cost to Nintendo Switch Online and Expansion Pack subscribers. Unfortunately, no such offer currently exists for those wishing to upgrade Kirby and the Forgotten Land or Super Mario Party Jamboree.
Pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 opened on April 24, with the console priced at $449.99. The demand has been exceptionally high, leading Nintendo to warn U.S. customers that they cannot guarantee release date delivery for pre-orders made through the My Nintendo Store.
