Marvel Rivals, the acclaimed hero shooter, is a smash hit on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. However, NetEase, the developer, has consistently stated it won't launch on the original Nintendo Switch due to performance limitations. But what about the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2?
This question was put to Marvel Rivals producer Weicong Wu at the DICE Summit. Good news for Switch fans: a Switch 2 release is definitely on the table!
Wu explained: "We're already in communication with Nintendo and working with their development kits. If we can ensure excellent performance on the Switch 2, we're absolutely open to it. The reason for skipping the original Switch was its inability to deliver a satisfactory gameplay experience. Meeting that performance standard is key to a Switch 2 release."
The Nintendo Switch 2 was officially unveiled last month. While specifics on its capabilities are still scarce, it's expected to be a more powerful and enhanced system than its predecessor. Interestingly, it seems the console will incorporate mouse-like controls, potentially making shooter games like Marvel Rivals feel more PC-like. The exact implementation remains to be seen.
The Nintendo Switch 2 lacks a confirmed release date, though a Nintendo Direct is scheduled for April 2nd. Marvel Rivals is currently available on other platforms, and we highly recommend it. Our 8/10 review praised the game, stating it "might closely follow established hero shooters, but has positioned itself strongly to potentially become the genre's best." The Human Torch and The Thing are set to join the roster on February 21st.
