Hori's Piranha Plant camera for the Nintendo Switch 2 offers a resolution of just 480p, significantly lower than Nintendo's official Switch 2 camera, which boasts a 1080p video capture quality. The UK My Nintendo Store has confirmed these resolutions, shedding light on the differences between the two products.
The Piranha Plant camera, officially licensed by Nintendo, is priced lower than Nintendo's own $49.99 camera. An interesting feature of the Piranha Plant camera is its detachable design; the part housing the webcam can be separated from the pot, allowing for direct placement on top of the Switch 2. This adds a level of portability not found in Nintendo's camera. Additionally, the plant's mouth can be closed to cover the lens, adding a fun and unique element to the accessory.
Despite its innovative design, the 480p resolution of the Piranha Plant camera has sparked surprise and humor among Nintendo fans. On Reddit, users expressed their astonishment, with comments like, "How do you even make a 480p camera in 2025?" and "That’s actually hilarious. Maybe they meant to release this back when the Wii U came out."
