Overwatch 2 is making a grand comeback to China, offering a wealth of rewards from Seasons 1 through 9, including skins inspired by Chinese mythology and a host of other exciting features. The Chinese Overwatch 2 community can mark their calendars for February 19, which aligns with the start of Season 15, as they prepare to dive back into the world of Future Earth.
The eagerly awaited return of Overwatch 2 to China was recently announced. The full relaunch is scheduled for February 19, but a technical test held from January 8 to 15 allowed fans to experience much of the content they missed, including Overwatch: Classic and the six new heroes introduced since the game's servers were shut down in China during Season 2.
Following the successful technical test, Overwatch 2 has shared more about what Chinese players can anticipate. In a message on Xiaohongshu (also known as RedNote), game director Aaron Keller announced a multi-week Return to China celebration. This event will feature popular in-game events and rewards that fans have missed over the past two years. Additionally, all Chinese players will have the opportunity to earn Battle Pass rewards from Seasons 1 and 2 before the game's relaunch, and from Seasons 3 through 9 through in-game events following the relaunch.
Chinese Mythology – Theme for Overwatch 2 Season 15?
Keller also teased that Overwatch 2 Season 15 will include skin bundles inspired by Chinese mythology. However, it remains unclear whether these skins will be new or existing, if they will be exclusive to China, or if they might be part of a broader Chinese mythology theme for Season 15, similar to the Norse mythology-inspired cosmetics of Season 14.
Global fans won't have to wait long for more information, as Overwatch 2 Season 15 is slated to start on February 18, just before the game's official relaunch in China. With just over a month to go, players can expect to learn more about the upcoming season soon, with a full reveal likely in early February.
In the meantime, players can participate in Min 1, Max 3 – the second 6v6 test in Overwatch 2 – from January 21 through February 4, with the classic 2-2-2 team composition available until then. The Lunar New Year and the Moth Meta Overwatch: Classic events are also scheduled before Season 15, providing plenty of excitement even before the new season kicks off. While Chinese players may not be able to join these events, they can look forward to their own special celebrations upon the game's return.
