Bad news for Switch gamers eager to dive into Palworld: a Switch version is currently off the table. Palworld, an early access survival game featuring collectible, Pokémon-esque creatures, enjoyed a surge in popularity upon its 2024 release but has since seen a decline in player engagement. Fortunately, a substantial update is poised to revitalize the game.
The Sakurajima Update, launching June 27th, is Palworld's most significant update yet. This update introduces a new explorable island, fresh Pals to capture, new bosses, an increased level cap, and dedicated servers for Xbox players. While this update is expected to reignite interest, it will initially be exclusive to PC and Xbox platforms.
Currently, Palworld is an Xbox console exclusive, with PlayStation plans in the works. This naturally leads to questions about a potential Switch release. However, in an interview with Game File (via VGC), Pocketpair's Takuro Mizobe cited "technical reasons" as the obstacle, suggesting the Switch's hardware limitations may hinder optimal performance. This doesn't entirely rule out future Nintendo console releases.
Palworld's Unlikely Switch Debut
While unconfirmed, Nintendo's upcoming Switch 2 console promises a significant performance boost. This upgrade could potentially make Palworld playable, especially considering its current availability on the nearly 11-year-old Xbox One. However, Palworld's thematic similarity to Nintendo's Pokémon franchise might present a significant hurdle to a Nintendo console release.
The possibility of a Nintendo console release remains uncertain. Nevertheless, portable Palworld gameplay is achievable. The game reportedly runs smoothly on the Steam Deck, offering a handheld option for PC gamers. Furthermore, if rumors of an Xbox handheld prove true, Palworld's compatibility seems likely.
